What to Know Before You Install⚑ Important — Read before purchasing1Not compatible with a standard junction box (J-box) by default
This sconce follows authentic 18th-century French decorative design. The cast backplate is shaped as part of the ornament and is made for direct wall mounting — it is not designed to fit a standard J-box. Installation is simple: the backplate is fixed to the wall with two screws (included), with the power supply wired through the wall behind the fixture.
A round adapter plate is included for J-box installation, but with the adapter in place the fixture cannot sit flush against the wall. The fixture pivots on the plate: pressing the lower section against the wall makes the top tilt outward, leaving a visible gap. If your wall has a J-box and a flush fit matters to you, please confirm the mounting method with your electrician before ordering.
✕J-box + round adapter plate: top tilts away, leaving a gap
✓Direct wall mount with 2 screws: sits flush against the wall2The brass finish looks different under different lighting
Solid brass is naturally more reflective than studio photography shows. Under real indoor or natural light, the finish is brighter and more vivid than product photos convey. This is a property of the material, not a colour discrepancy. Watch the video above to see the fixture under real lighting before ordering.
3Wiring runs along the back of the fixture — not inside a channel
The body is a single solid cast — there is no hollow channel for internal wiring. The cord runs along the back surface between wall plate and arms. If installing against a mirror or reflective surface, rear wiring will be visible. Plan a wire cover or in-wall conduit before installation.
4Not suitable for damp or outdoor locations
Dry indoor use only. Not for bathrooms or damp locations.

Installation
- Hardwired installation — a licensed electrician is strongly recommended.
- Mounts directly to the wall with two screws through the backplate — no junction box needed. Both mounting screws are included. Not compatible with a standard junction box (J-box) by default — this reflects the fixture's authentic French decorative backplate design.
- A round adapter plate is included for J-box installation. With the adapter fitted, the fixture will not sit flush: the top tilts slightly away from the wall. Confirm the mounting method with your electrician before ordering.
- Cord routes along the back of the fixture — plan wire concealment if mounting against mirrors or reflective walls.
- For smooth dimming, pair with a dimmable LED bulb and a TRIAC dimmer switch (e.g. Lutron Skylark, Leviton Decora).
- Indoor dry location only. Not suitable for bathrooms or damp areas.
FAQCan I install this on a standard junction box (J-box) +
Not by default. The sconce follows authentic French decorative design, and its cast backplate is made for direct wall mounting — it simply fixes to the wall with the two included screws — rather than a standard J-box. A round adapter plate is included for J-box installation, but with it the fixture cannot sit flush — pressing the bottom against the wall makes the top tilt outward, leaving a gap. If your wall has a J-box, please check with your electrician before ordering.
Why does the brass look brighter in person than in the photos +
Studio photography uses cool-spectrum lighting that reduces glare. Real solid brass is more reflective — under natural or warm indoor light it glows vividly. This is a material property, not a colour discrepancy. Watch the product video above before ordering.
Can the wiring be hidden or run inside the fixture +
No. The body is a single solid cast — there is no channel for internal wiring. The cord runs along the back surface. For mirror or reflective wall installations, plan an in-wall conduit or wire cover with your electrician before fitting.
What is the lost-wax casting method +
A wax model is encased in ceramic, then melted out — leaving a cavity that is filled with molten brass. Each cast is unique and cannot be replicated by machine, giving the fixture its exceptional relief detail.
Will the finish change over time +
Yes. Natural brass develops a living patina — deeper tones in high-contact areas, original lustre in protected areas. Clean with a dry cloth to slow patina, or apply a thin clear lacquer to preserve as-received appearance.
Which bulb do you recommend +
Warm white (2700K) dimmable LED, 4–6W, E12 or E14 base. A flame-tip style complements the candle aesthetic. Avoid cool-white — it flattens the brass tone.
Is this suitable for a mirror wall installation +
Yes, but rear wiring will reflect in the mirror if exposed. Route wiring inside the wall via conduit and use a flush wall plate. Consult your electrician before fitting.
